What is a Solar Panel?

A solar panel is a collection of small cells that collects sunlight and converts it into electricity. The type of energy it produces is referred to as photovoltaic or solar energy. The amount of electricity the solar panel can generate depends on a) the number of cells it has (i.e. the bigger it is the more powerful it is) and b) the amount of sunlight that hits it.

How do I know how many panels I will need? Or what size to choose?

We'll do an assessment that takes into consideration what you want to power. Then we'll show you exactly what you will need to fulfill those specific power requirements.

What will my savings be?

That depends on what you're trying to accomplish. Do you want to be completely independent of your local power supplier, i.e. off the grid? Or do you just want enough solar energy to power your heating and cooling (HVAC) system? We can figure out your expected savings once we do the assessment and help you understand what your options are.

What happens if there is no sunshine for days on end?

Well, the solar panel can only convert energy if it collects it first. So without sunlight there is nothing for it to collect and therefore it cannot provide you with electricity. But don't worry. Technically you will still be on the grid as a redundant power source. You just won't be sending any energy back to the grid. Instead you will be using energy from the grid so you will incur energy costs from your local provider during this time. But the sunshine always comes back eventually and once it does you'll be collecting rays and off the grid once again!
